FAMILY AND HOUSEHOLD: FLUTTERY EVERYDAY LIFE OF DUŠAN BEKAR

Promotional Materials for Exhibition

Promotional materials for exhibition staged at the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla in Zagreb, include catalogue, posters and various items for social media.

  • In July 1957, at a juried competition in Belgrade, Bekar's conceptual design for a poster for the 1st International Exhibition of Family and Household 1957 with a children's fair was "adopted with the first prize" and became the trademark of the event that was held in the autumn of the same year, and in 1958 and 1960.

The winning design was a "meander-house" drawn in single stroke, reflecting a variation of the meander.

It served as a key visual in the development of the exhibition's promotional materials. The key visual was primarily supplemented by illustrations from 1957 made especially for the exhibition “Family and Household”, as well as some later illustrations that complement the theme of the lifestyle of the time.

The choice of colors is directly based on the colors of the original billboards that were made in 1957, while the choice of fonts is based on modernized versions of the fonts used at the time. The handwriting was chosen to resemble as much as possible the calligraphy that Bekar used at that time when creating advertisements and other similar materials.

In addition to the key visuals, a complete layout was created for the exhibition catalog.

Along with the catalog, various promotional posters and numerous materials for social networks were created.

    All materials are designed by
Alira Hrabar Bekar and Dušan Bekar.
