MARKO MARULIĆ AND SPLIT — 500 YEARS TOGETHER
Exhibiton Identity and Design
History-inspired concept of the exhibition for The City Museum of Split consist of identity design, catalogue, exhibition graphics as well as print and digital advertising materials.
-
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Marko Marulić, the most significant and widely read Croatian Renaissance writer, the Split City Museum has set up a commemorative exhibition entitled "Marko Marulić and Split - 500 Years Together".
The exhibition has a dual character - permanent and traveling. It is permanently exhibited at the Split City Museum, except when it is on tour in other cities.
Since its opening on April 24, 2024 in Split on Marmontova Street, the exhibition has visited several Croatian cities - Dubrovnik, Rijeka, and Zagreb, and plans are underway to set it up in other cities in Croatia and abroad.
The request was to solve the entire identity of the exhibition. This included the design and creation of the exhibition identity, a multilingual catalog, promotional materials accompanying the exhibition, and the design of the exhibits (exhibition panels).
The project began with the development of a commemorative sign with a logo and the selection of characteristic elements and characteristic colors as the basis of the identity.
The commemorative sign "MMD", consisting of Marko Marulić's initials "MM" found in his original manuscripts and printed works, and the Roman numeral 500 "D", surrounded by a logo that is also the name of the exhibition "Marko Marulić and Split - 500 years together".
The visual identity upgrade is a play between the characteristic element - which is essentially a stylized Renaissance frame, which was intended to emphasize the period in which the author created his works - and the characteristic tonal transition from Dark Indigo to Carmine.
The play of these elements was used when designing catalog layout and design of the exhibition panels in order to achieve visual uniformity across all materials, paying particular attention to applicability across printed and digital media.
